Why Commercial Projects Go Wrong

We have all heard the horror stories of construction projects suffering major setbacks and some not ever being completed for a wide variety of reasons. In many cases, the general contractor takes the brunt of the blame. The running joke is that there are two types of people you don’t want to work with – lawyers and general contractors. Our answer to that criticism is that those people have never worked with Commercial Building, Inc. before. We have built a solid reputation as one of the area’s best general contracting companies because of our knowledge, our skills, and our dedication to our clients.

Still, there are a number of reasons in general contracting why a project will be delayed or go horribly wrong. Perhaps the biggest reason is because the client simply did not budget for the project correctly. At Commercial Building, Inc. we work closely with our clients to ensure that their building and renovation budget is realistic and workable. The fact of the matter in general contracting is that if something can go wrong, it very well may, and you have to account for the unexpected when you are budgeting for you commercial construction project.

Another reason why some commercial building projects get off track is an unreasonable timeline for completion. This is seldom the responsibility of the client. A good general contractor will not be overzealous in their deadlines and make promises to a client that they know from the beginning are going to be hard for them to keep. In our experience, client’s understand that a reasonable timeline, one that does not push last minute deadlines, is the optimal goal for their project. At Commercial Building, Inc. we do not believe that rushing a project to meet our own unreasonable deadlines does anyone any good. Our goal is to complete your commercial construction or renovation project in a timely manner and to get it done right the first time.

When new construction projects for businesses are expected to grow or remain stable for the foreseeable future that is a pretty good indicator that existing businesses are growing, and more small business owners are taking steps to construct commercial buildings for themselves.

Hire a general contractor who knows the N.C State Building Code. Hire a general contractor who will take care of getting permits for you, and if you are currently in the process of hiring a general contractor who won’t work with the city on your behalf, then find a different one.

Choose a commercial building company that will put your mind at ease during your new construction process. Commercial Building, Inc. does it all for our clients. There are many different scenarios when it comes to bad commercial building experiences. Budget issues, problems in the construction phase, safety concerns, an unrealistic timeline that results in a strained relationship between client and contractor and more. Many bad experiences start with the failure to secure the proper permits and approval to build or renovate. At Commercial Building, Inc., we take special care to make sure that none of those scenarios are an issue for our clients. That is why we have built a solid reputation and a resume that includes over a hundred projects in Fayetteville and the surrounding areas.

Safety is Key During Building Renovation Process

When it comes to building renovations and construction, you cannot be too careful. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Organization (OSHA) nearly 1,000 people died in construction related accidents in 2016. The majority of those were from falls, but many deaths were also caused by electrocution, being struck by an object and equipment malfunctions. If you are doing building renovations, there are a few simple but vital safety procedures and protocol that you should follow to minimize the risk of getting hurt.

building renovations

Protect your head and your eyes. Wearing proper headgear and eye protection while doing any kind of construction or renovation work is absolutely necessary. One blow to the head from a falling object can be fatal. When working with certain machinery there is a chance that dust, electrical sparks, and/or flying particles can affect your eyes. Be sure that your face shield or eye protection fits correctly, and always inspect your protective headgear to make sure it is in good working condition.

Protect your hands and feet. When the renovation process calls for it, be sure to wear proper footwear and gloves to keep your feet and hands from being injured on the job. Shoes or boots should be slip resistant and not easily punctured. Gloves should be worn according to the renovation job you are doing. You may need electrical gloves, welding gloves or rubber gloves depending on the project.

Properly secure yourself when heights are involved. Be sure to follow manufacture guidelines for ladder safety. If you are using scaffolding, it needs to be on a level surface and never attempt to move it while others are on it.

Don’t risk getting shocked. When it comes to electrical safety during the renovation process, you  have to be vigilant. For starters, turn off any source of power to electrical outlets. Do not let anyone do electrical work until the power is off and grounds are attached. Also, do not allow any ladders, scaffolding or electrical equipment to come within ten feet of power lines. If you notice any frayed or damaged wiring, replace it immediately.

Renovations can be done correctly and safely with a little advance preparation. Commercial Building, Inc. specializes in building renovations and construction. We make safety a top priority for our team. We also know exactly what you need to complete your renovations correctly and according to your timeline for completion. You do not have to concern yourself with safety equipment and safety precautions when you hire Commercial Building, Inc. to do your renovations for you.
